Blazing Saddles

The Internet Movie Database       Movie Reviews

A hilarious parody of the Western genre.

OK, this one is definitely on my “10 funniest movies ever” list, ever since I saw it as a high-school-age otter…even though I can quote large chunks of dialogue right along with the actors, it still makes me laugh.

No, this is not for the easily shocked, the politically correct or anyone under about 16 (if only for the fact that teenagers will repeat the jokes til you want to kill them) but anyone with a sense of humor will laugh til they cry.

And the cast is great: Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder (almost a honey, both of them), Harvey Korman, Madeleine Kahn, Mel Brooks, and even Alex Karras is perfect for his part.

sigh. Mel Brooks. What happened to him? Made four of the best movies ever (The Producers, The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein) and then all of a sudden stopped being funny and just relied on poo-poo jokes as punch lines. The George Lucas syndrome strikes again…but those four are amazing, see them all.

Not everyone will find Blazing Saddles to be screamingly funny, so my advice is: if they don’t, ditch them as soon as possible and get some new friends, you’ll be glad you did.
