Vera Ellen falls in love with David Niven, whom she thinks is a newspaper reporter but who is in reality a millionaire.
You know, it was late at night, and Mr. Otter and I were prepared to scorn this movie and heap abuse and msting on its head…we were only watching it because we like David Niven and it was cheap.
But it was really charming…Vera Ellen was cute, Niven was absolutely suave and wonderful (SERIOUS honey) and the plot was funny albeit predictable. Cesar Romero (hm, he might be a honey too) chewed the scenery in his usual over-the-top fashion, and all ended well.
A dishonourable mention goes to the songwriters and costumers, who contributed to three of the worst, most inappropriate and laughable musical numbers since the big “Shanghai Lil” finale in Footlight Parade…these have to be seen to be believed.
If you like silly, frothy, slightly romantic musicals, or if you just like David Niven, give this one a try, you won’t be disappointed.
