Invitation to a Gunfighter

The Internet Movie Database       Movie Reviews

A town with a problem invites a gunfighter to take care of it, and gets more than they bargained for.

Ottersis has been promising to show me this for a long time, and we finally managed it.

And it was worth the wait. I mean, first of all, Yul Brynner, what could be better? In a WESTERN.

But this really is good. It’s more a psychological study than a shoot-em-up, and it’s well done. The townsfolk hire Brynner to kill the outcast holed up at the edge of town, and of course he just toys with all their secrets and resentments and wierd little psyches. It’s great to watch.

And after all that, the ending is good. Oh, and it was nice to see the town’s Mexican population portrayed as nice ordinary people (in contrast to the high-maintenance demanding whackos that the Anglos were).

All in all, a satisfying movie-watching experience. With Yul Brynner. This otter recommends it.
