Two women in prison for killing their men, and the lawyer who may save them.

And they say the musical is dead. This revival of a 1975 stage show is a blast. Wonderful songs, dance routines and costumes, good singing/dancing/acting, if you like dark musicals this one is well worth the money.

I have never liked Richard Gere in anything before this, but he’s great. Zellweger and Zeta-Jones are excellent. The musical numbers are a little choppy, but they use them to underscore the plot in many places by cutting back and forth from the number to the action…very effective, very eye catching.

And Queen Latifah…how wonderful to see a big woman who is so beautiful, and dresses so well, and is so talented. And is taken seriously, since big women are usually the butt of jokes in any current movie. A real breath of fresh air, esp. compared to Renee Zellweger, who looks like a starved teenager next to her…waaaay too thin.

This one is a real winner, don’t miss it.
